More about offline, GPU and Rust

Design, animate, render and carve run on your own computer, and your projects never leave it. Carvercat draws and renders on your GPU. It is a native app written in Rust. Only update checks need the internet, and an AI client you connect may too.

More about agents

Local MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets a compatible AI client create, refine, render and deliver in Carvercat. You can keep editing the same project by hand. No agent is needed. The agent integration is free; the AI client you connect may have its own costs.

Questions.

Alpha & free

What is Carvercat?

Free motion graphics software for you and your AI agent. Design and animate in one project, then carve it into DaVinci Resolve or After Effects as an editable comp, and into Premiere Pro through After Effects.

Is it stable?

No. Everything in Carvercat is alpha. This is the first public release: expect glitches, missing features, and changes as it evolves. Tell us what breaks on Discord.

Is Carvercat free?

Yes, completely, and it will stay free forever. Every feature is included, with no trial and no watermark. The AI client you connect may have its own costs.

Do I need a Carvercat account?

No. Download it, open it and start creating.

Is Carvercat open source?

No. It is free to use, while its source code remains private.

Editors

What does “carve” mean?

Carving sends your animation into an editor as a real, editable comp, not a flattened video. Rendered media is still available when you want a finished clip.

Which editors work?

DaVinci Resolve (Free and Studio) carves as an editable Fusion comp. After Effects carves as an After Effects comp and needs After Effects on the same computer. Premiere Pro has no direct send yet; it goes through After Effects.

How do I use it with Premiere Pro?

Premiere Pro: through After Effects for now. Carvercat sends to After Effects. Save that project, then import the comp into Premiere or bring it in with Dynamic Link. Requires After Effects. We have not tested that route yet, and a direct Premiere send is coming.

Can Resolve and Adobe editors share one project?

Yes. That is what Carvercat is for. Each editor carves the same project into their own tool, so nobody re-makes the motion.

Do I need to know Fusion nodes?

No. You design on a canvas and animate on a timeline. Carvercat builds the Fusion comp for you, and you can still open it in Fusion.

Does it replace my editor?

No. Create the graphic in Carvercat and finish it in your editor.

Can I use it with Final Cut Pro or another editor?

Yes, through rendered media such as video or image sequences. Its design controls stay in Carvercat.

You + your agent

Do I need an AI agent?

No. You can design and animate yourself. An agent is another way to edit the same project.

Can an agent do the work, and can I still edit it?

Yes. Local MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets a compatible AI client create, refine, render and deliver in Carvercat. You can edit the same project by hand at any point.

Do AI services cost extra?

Carvercat's agent integration is free. The AI client you connect may need its own account, internet connection or paid plan.

The app

Which platforms are supported?

Macs with Apple silicon (macOS 13 or later) and 64-bit Windows, tested on Windows 11.

Why does my computer show a warning when I first open it?

Carvercat isn't signed with an Apple or Microsoft developer certificate yet, so macOS or Windows may ask you to confirm before the first launch. Allow it once. See the steps for Mac and Windows.

Why Rust and a GPU?

Carvercat is a native app written in Rust. It draws and renders on your GPU, so the work happens on your own machine, offline.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Design, animation, rendering and carving run locally on your computer, using your own hardware. When online, Carvercat checks updates.carvercat.com for updates; see Privacy. An external AI client may need internet access.
