Send it to your editor.

Carve an editable comp into DaVinci Resolve or After Effects, bring it into Premiere Pro through After Effects, or export rendered files. Check the actual result each time.

  2. Rendered formats.
  3. Export a rendered file.
  4. DaVinci Resolve.
  5. Edit it again from Carvercat.
  6. After Effects.
  7. Automatic or manual.

Pick a target.

TargetYou getStatus

After EffectsEditable After Effects compLive
Premiere ProListed as “soon” in Deliver. Use After Effects, then bring the comp inVia After Effects

Open Deliver and choose a Target. Rendered media keeps the finished look. An editable comp can be changed in your editor. Neither syncs back to Carvercat.

Rendered formats.

Deliver lists what your computer can export. Pick from that list.

KindFormats
Video on MacH.264, HEVC, ProRes 422, ProRes 4444 (MP4 or MOV; ProRes needs MOV; transparency needs ProRes 4444)
Video on WindowsH.264 in MP4, even dimensions, no transparency
StillsPNG, JPEG, TIFF, EXR
SequencesPNG, TIFF, EXR, DPX
AlsoGIF; audio as WAV, MP3, FLAC or Opus
  • Check dimensions, frame rate, frame count and range.
  • Check transparency in the actual output.
  • Check audio duration and alignment.
  • Keep original sources; preview proxies do not replace them.

Export a rendered file.

  1. Save, then confirm comp, size, rate and duration.
  2. Apply pending templates and fill missing media or asset slots.
  3. Open Deliver, choose Files, then a method and format.
  4. Check range, folder, name and what happens if the file exists.
  5. Read the plan and any warnings, then export.
  6. Check the first, middle and last frames, not only the success message.

DaVinci Resolve.

Carves an editable Fusion comp onto your timeline. Works with Resolve Free and Studio. Built against Resolve 21. Everything is generated on your computer.

MethodSetup
StudioIn Resolve, set Preferences → System → General → External scripting using to Local.
FreeCarvercat installs a small script, Carvercat Free Receiver, into Resolve’s Fusion Scripts folder, only when you press the button. Start it once from Workspace → Scripts → Carvercat Free Receiver. On Mac, auto-start needs Accessibility permission; otherwise choose the menu item by hand.
ManualCopy the Fusion nodes and paste them into a Fusion clip. No connection needed. Video clips cannot be pasted this way, and audio comes out as separate files.
  1. In Deliver, choose Target → DaVinci Resolve and a method.
  2. Choose track, frame, and insert or overwrite.
  3. Read the plan, then send.
  4. Check the comp on the timeline and change a control in Fusion.

Use a test timeline while learning.

Edit it again from Carvercat.

The scene is stored inside the Fusion comp. A clip Carvercat made can be edited in place, edited as new, or deleted from Carvercat. Carvercat checks the clip is still where it expects, and refuses if not. Audio cannot live in Fusion, so it is placed as separate audio clips.

Changes you make in Resolve do not sync back. Carvercat’s exposed controls do not become Inspector controls.

After Effects.

Carves an editable comp into the project you have open in After Effects.

NeedDetail
After Effects installedTested on After Effects 2026 for Windows. Mac is not tested yet. Older versions are untested.
Setting onAllow Scripts to Write Files and Access Network. Carvercat shows a warning mark if it looks off.
FontsText uses fonts installed on the computer running After Effects. A text with no installed font is refused.
  1. In Deliver, choose Target → After Effects.
  2. Choose Connection: Automatic or Manual.
  3. Choose Placement: New comp, or Replace the earlier Carvercat comp of the same name.
  4. Read the preflight report, then send.
  5. Find the comp in a folder named Carvercat in your project.

Carvercat never saves your project and never creates an .aep. Save it yourself.

Automatic or manual.

ConnectionWhat happens
AutomaticOn Windows, Carvercat starts After Effects if needed. A cold start takes about a minute, sometimes more; it gives up after 10 minutes. On Mac, After Effects is launched through macOS, which may ask for Automation permission.
ManualCarvercat writes three files to a folder you pick. In After Effects, choose File → Scripts → Run Script File and run carvercat_ae_run.jsx.

No script or plug-in is installed into After Effects. Sends refuse, with the reason shown, when templates are pending or a font is missing.

What stays editable.

These arrive as native After Effects layers:

  • Text layers: font, size, tracking, leading, point and box text.
  • Shapes: rectangle, ellipse, path, star, polygon, fills, strokes, dashes, trim paths.
  • Footage, audio, precomps, adjustment layers, track mattes, blend modes, parenting.
  • Transform keyframes with matching Bézier easing.

These are baked or approximate: colour animation, animated paths, per-axis scale on different frames, blur, shadow and glow (glow is a stack, not After Effects’ own Glow), text outlines, merge operators Out and Held Out. Other effects are not mapped yet. Anything not mapped is listed in the report, not dropped silently.

Premiere Pro.

For now, work through After Effects. We have not tested this route, so treat it as a how-to:

  1. Send the comp to After Effects.
  2. Save the After Effects project.
  3. In Premiere Pro, import the comp, or bring it in with Dynamic Link.

This route needs After Effects installed. Or export rendered media with Files and import it as usual.

Known failure versus unknown outcome.

After a known failed send, a retry can reuse saved output that has not changed. Changing the source or settings renders again.

Common reasons a send is refused: Resolve not running, scripting off, target changed, templates not applied, project not saved, media slots empty, frame rates not matching.

Other editors.

Final Cut Pro and other editors can import rendered media as usual. Its design controls stay in Carvercat. Check frame rate, transparency and audio in that app.
